IgnitionOne, a global marketing cloud provider, released its Q1 2016 Digital Marketing Report, demonstrating both steady trends and surprising changes in digital advertising metrics. Q1 marked a drop in U.S. paid search spend for the first time in six years, down 5% year over year (YoY). Mobile continues to be the star of search, demonstrating the largest jump in impressions in several years at 19% year over year. Programmatic display is up 10% YoY, with Facebook dominating Google in growth, up 51%.

According to PQ Media, content marketing is expected to be a $300 billion industry by 2019. Up until now, it has focused on giving anyone the free and easy-to-use tools needed to publish to the web--only without the pressure of maintaining and regularly posting to a blog. It also promotes interactivity from readers-letting them highlight passages, and become a part of the conversation in the comments. Now, though, Medium is taking aim at Wordpress-and other WCM systems--and trying to entice publishers to its service.

Collective Bias, a leader in shopper-focused influencer marketing, published results of a large-scale national survey investigating how U.S. consumers' online behaviors impact in-store purchase decisions. The survey, fielded to nearly 14,000 adults in early March, found that 30% of consumers are more likely to purchase a product endorsed by a non-celebrity blogger than a celebrity. Of that number, 70% of 18 to 34 year-olds had the highest preference for "peer" endorsement.

There are now few places within the customer journey that can't be bolstered by content, finds "Content Marketing's Evolution: The Age of Hyper-Personalization and Automation" released from Seismic, an end-to-end sales enablement solution, and Demand Metric. According to the more than 180 B2B enterprise stakeholders surveyed, lead generation (70% of respondents) is the most cited objective for B2B content marketing initiatives, and sales team support and enablement (64%) is the second-most cited objective, surpassing both thought leadership efforts (58%) and web traffic generation (56%), among other objectives. Eighty percent of respondents also indicate that these objectives are better met when content is personalized.
