A recent Scottish League Cup Final, presented by Utilita, between Hibernian and Ross County was not only played out on the pitch but also in virtual reality thanks to San Francisco-headquartered technology company, Virtually Live. The SPFL has facilitated Virtually Live to test a live football broadcast in virtual reality at Scotland's National Stadium Hampden Park in Glasgow during the showpiece national cup final. Retale, a location-based mobile platform that helps shoppers save on purchases from retailers and brands, announced the results of a commissioned study examining ad blocker adoption on PC and mobile devices. 500 adults across the U.S. were polled for this study between January 18-25, 2016. According to the results, 57% of those surveyed said that they use an ad blocker to prevent viewing display ads while on a PC.

Despite its importance to consumers, email is falling behind social media when it comes to customer service, with UK brands answering just 38% of emailed questions, according to a new study. Twitter (48% success rate) and Facebook (44%) are both more accurate and faster at delivering responses, although a lack of consistency between channels is undermining the overall customer experience. Overall, across email, the web, and Twitter, brands were only able to correctly answer 51% of questions that were put to them.

The Google ad experience as we know it is changing. The search giant will no longer serve text ads in the right rail of search results. Instead, text ads will appear above and/or below search results. Additionally, users can expect an extra ad-four instead of three-above the search results for what Google calls "highly commercial queries." Nearly half of small businesses in the U.S. operate without a website, according to a new survey of 350+ small businesses from Clutch, a B2B research firm. Irrelevancy to their business and expense were the top reasons cited by most respondents for why they choose not to have a website. Despite these findings, website experts stress that small businesses that do not have a website should seriously consider developing one--even the simplest, low cost, 1-2 page site--in order to have a greater online presence.

Collective Bias, a provider of shopper-focused influencer marketing, revealed new data from its Time on Content feature, an indicator of the relevancy and quality of influencer content. Through Time on Content, the company found that consumers view their influencer content for an average duration of two minutes and eight seconds, which is almost seven times longer than the digital display ad average of 19.2 seconds based on viewability standards as measured by Moat Analytics. During the holidays, time spent with influencer content increased to two minutes and 21 seconds.

Facebook announced on its Parse blog that as of January 28, 2017, it will no longer offer its Parse service, which helped users build mobile apps. Over the next year, Facebook will sunset the service, giving current users time to make alternate plans for their apps. The post says, "We are committed to maintaining the backend service during the sunset period, and are providing several tools to help migrate applications to other services."
